Back in a Few.....

I'm just getting back home from a hectic and rushed trip. Too many things to do, and too little time to get it done.

I'm sure you know the feeling.

....and I've been sick thru most of it. plgghh. Still sick. ugh. Like, sick in the bed kind of sick.

Migraine too, the don't show me the light kind, and please don't speak above a whisper kind.

(Calgon, take me away!)

Will someone please come and unload my car for me?

I just don't think I have the energy.

I have to force myself out of the bed because I have to do something big (to me) with a deadline, so I'll be away for a few more days.

Ben & Phoebe's Daybed

I recently helped my cousin and his gorgeous fiance {they just got engaged on the weekend} with the cushioning on this lovely daybed which they purchased from Cotswold for their beach house. We selected an array of brightly coloured exterior fabrics for the scatter cushions and a trusty navy and white stripe exterior fabric for the seat cushions and voila this is the result. I just love it and apparently they do too!!

Friday Flowers

This morning, whilst running very late for school drop off, I raced around my new old garden and cut some foliage for an arrangement I was wanting to create for the shop today. Here is the result above. The arrangement sits on a beautiful oval Antique table which actually just sold to one of my lovely clients this afternoon. I am loving big glass vases filled with masses of leaves at the moment. Luckily my garden seems to have the perfect plants for this type of arrangement.

Black & Spiro Today

We installed a new window display at Black & Spiro today. There's lots of pretty colour in the lovely fabric drop we have hung and a beautiful Antique piece of furniture sits in front with a few bits on top including my favourite Staffordshire Dogs. Also a few people have been asking about the fabric on our lovely Antique chairs. It is a Mexican embroidered Otomi. We have this textile in quite a few colourways. It is divine.

 I fell in love with Ballard Designs many moons ago.  They just keep getting better and better every year.  This living room is perfection in my book.  The moment I laid eyes on it, I immediately thought of the idea of keeping the wall over the mantle bare in order to project a television image onto it from the ceiling.  When I asked my audio/videophile husband about the idea I could instantly see the wheels turning and head noddling, that it was a profoundly good idea.  So into the dream house file you go, living room pic.

On a Little Sanity Break

.....or some would say "insanity" break.

If you knew what I was doing right now, I'm sure you'd think I was nuts, so I'll spare you the details.

Let's just say there are plenty of mold spores, dead mice, ticks, and multiple trips to the dump involved.

Nuff said? Yeah, I thought so.

I thought I should pop in and let you all know that I haven't forgotten about you. I'm taking care of some family business and it's taken me away from the comforts of home, ie, my blogging spot.

And definitely out of the reach of cell phone service.

I should return in about a week.

I've missed keeping up with you all this past week. I'm afraid to even look at my reader for fear of what the number of missed posts will be!

If I don't return, will someone please send a hasmat crew? Tell them to look beneath the pile of rubble at the edge of my mother's house?

(I love you mom, but, well....., you know. :) )

Big News! Huge News!

We are finally realizing more of our dream!! We've been in the pizza business now for over 14 years (This Jan will be 15 years). I blew my first piece of glass 6 years ago this early summer. Shortly after beginning to blow glass, I wanted to decorate our restaurant with the glass. I wanted to blow my own pendant lights, and put all sorts of glass in our restaurant to make it look beautiful. A little while later, we (the fam) decided "How cool would it be if we had our glass blowing studio and restaurant under the same roof. People could come in and eat great Italian food and in the same building watch us create Italian Art. (For centuries, the best blown glass on the planet came out of Murano in Italy) We have been cultivating, developing, and pursuing that quest for over 5 years now. When we came up with the idea, we had never heard of that being done anywhere! Later, we heard of a place in Vermont called Simon Pearce. To the best of our knowledge the only place that comes close to what we have wanted to do is Simon Pearce, who has a restaurant and glass studio on the same grounds. The glass that they blow however seems to be only clear and seem to be primarily functional pieces whereas ours has lots of color and much of what we do I consider to be "art glass" but we blow functional pieces as well. Having said that, it truly seems to be first class in every way! One of these days, I think we will try to make it up there to take a look at it in person. Our hats are off to Simon Pearce!

At times it looked impossible! Starting a glass studio is not easy. Neither is operating a restaurant. (A banker told me one time that the statistics show that less than 2 out of 100 "mom & pop" restaurants that start are still in business five years later!) I don't know the stats on a glass blowing studio. But the good news is, we are now moving toward realizing that dream at a pretty fast pace.

Work has already started on the deconstruction and renovation of our new place! Our new place will house both Italian Jim's and the glass studio together. Right now Italian Jim's occupies about 2400-2500 square feet. Our new place will be 6,500 square feet. We are really excited about it. We are going to be right in downtown Edmond, OK. I will be giving more specifics about the restaurant and the studio later with some photos taken during the construction.

Wait till you see the new "Oklahoma Today" magazine!!!

Actually, don't wait! The newest issue of "Oklahoma Today" magazine is being mailed out now. Some have already received theirs. They featured us twice this issue. Once as one of the top pizza places (Italian Jim's) in Oklahoma and also did a TREMENDOUS write-up with an EXTRAORDINARY photo of some of our latest stuff. I've been told you can't get it in the news stands till about the first of next month, but it could be early. I think we are mentioned on page 77 and featured on page 78? (I'll check those page numbers and make sure that's correct.)
