I was treated by my BFF the other day to my very first Anthropologie experience, it was everything I expected and more. I felt proud to see some of the same items for sale in the shop that I sell in my little ole store (the calenders you see on the right). We window shopped till we dropped, ate till we almost popped, ooooed and aaahhhed at all of the multi-million dollar houses with their bajillion Christmas lights decorating their trees, houses and fences. I guess you can't tell that we had a great time. She wanted to treat me for my Birthday early since it falls on the 22 and so many years it just feels like I don't even have one. She really made me feel special, that is her gift. I am so grateful for my wonderful friends and for having and Anthropologie in Houston. Enjoy, Heidi.
Recovering from the Thanksgiving holidays, hope you all had a good one. I have a lot to be thankful for, you all are on the list. Thanks, Heidi Found on Kiss the Groom
This is perfect, I can build my story book dream house with 100% sustainable matierials. It has come full circle, what was the old fashioned way of building is now the new alternative.
Tradical
Hemp can be made into any building material, including fiberboard, roofing, flooring, wallboard, caulking, cement, paint, paneling, particleboard, plaster, plywood, reinforced concrete, insulation, insulation panels, spray-on insulation, concrete pipes, bricks, and biodegradable plastic composites which are tougher than steel. I know, too good to be true. It is all true.
The following video is about a house in North Carolina built with Hempcrete.
Hemp foundation walls are 7 times stronger than concrete foundations, half as light, and three times as elastic, which means that these building will bend, but not break. Because of their superior strength and flexibility, hemp foundations are resistant to stress-induced cracking and breaking.
Then there is Hemp Plastic. It is lighter than steel and is 10 times more resistant to denting.
Watch Henry Ford demonstrate this on his Plastic Hemp Car he made in 1941.
Found on Hemp Plastic Being made of Hemp and water, it seems like Hemp Plastic would be a solution to the plastic plague our world is suffering from? I didn't even mention the thousands of other uses, like food, fuel, clothing, paper and medicine. And if by chance you are wondering why we don't use this fast growing plant that grows almost anywhere and requires zero pesticides, herbicides and very little fertilizer? Just think of who it's competition is, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Timber, Steele, Cotton, Coal and Oil companies. Just remember, vote with your dollar. We are the mass consumers of the world so we need to be responsible and buy products that are good for our Earth. Educate yourself, do some research. Industrial Hemp can be grown without the THC chemical. Thanks for your time. Heidi
Magically turn that worn, dull brass piece into a shiny, sleek and rejuvenated silver one. Found on Style North, I am amazed at this transformation. Brass seems like a good idea until it starts turning green? Not a big fan of the brass patina, but stripping the brass plate off to expose the base metal silver is something I have just learned of and I had to share it ASAP. Click here to see the whole DIY for Style North. Hope you all have a great weekend. Enjoy, Heidi
What a great look for the Autumn months ahead. Graphics Fairy is responsible for these wonderful ideas, plus you can download for FREE the Parrot and Squirrel prints. I love that Fairy. Enjoy, Heidi
I fell in love with Ballard Designs many moons ago. They just keep getting better and better every year. This living room is perfection in my book. The moment I laid eyes on it, I immediately thought of the idea of keeping the wall over the mantle bare in order to project a television image onto it from the ceiling. When I asked my audio/videophile husband about the idea I could instantly see the wheels turning and head noddling, that it was a profoundly good idea. So into the dream house file you go, living room pic.
It feels like we are living in the armpit of Texas right now. So hot and humid and smelly. Here are a few ideas to help refresh if you too are living in an armpit. Click on the source below each image to get directions. Happy weekend. Enjoy, Heidi
